Veterinarian Wanted...

We wanted to write an advertisement in the AVMA Journal but, like everyone else advertising there, yada yada yada, we also had too much to say.

We are a four vet small animal hospital at 1125 Goffle Road, Hawthorne, New Jersey, 07506. Hawthorne is approximately 25 minutes drive west of New York City. It is a small town, surrounded by much bigger towns, and hardly anyone knows where Hawthorne is. We are near Franklin Lakes, Wyckoff, Fairlawn, Prospect Park, Glen Rock, and Paterson.

Founded in 1981, as of 2008 our hospital is 27 years old. Two of the vets are married to each other, and have been vets for over 32 years each (Drs.Dinjer and Maxine Shefki) The third vet (Dr.Lynn Robben) has been working with them for over 19 years. Our newest veterinarian, Dr. Gwiazdowski, has been a veterinarian for 3 years. We are a fairly stable hospital.

Our schedule is unusual in that we consider full time week approximately 32-34 hours work scheduled, so you really never get to work more than 40 hours a week.

We are looking for an associate to make it five vets. The new associate will need to be surgically oriented; it is important that surgical skills are there if needed.

We mostly see dogs and cats, but now and then we see some exotics. We have a separate exotics isolation ward. So if you like, or are knowledgeable about exotics; we are ready to learn from you !

Emergency service is provided on and off premises. If you want to see emergencies, you get additional bonus. Talking about money; your salary depends on what you are capable of. We want the most capable veterinarian for the highest salary!!! We are flexible in that it can be a straight salary, or percentage of your gross, or a combination. We want you to earn a lot of money! We offer profit sharing retirement plan, continuing education, paid vacation, and money towards health insurance, But we also want quality work, performed very ethically. We like to get things right first time. The four vets have almost 90 years of combined experience; so we are not new or inexperienced.

If you are inexperienced, do not be afraid to apply. We can teach you; all we need is the right attitude. However, this is not the practice for you if you take an hour to spay a dog, or you can not take blood, put an IV catheter in, or I have to show you how to hand tie sutures or hold a scissor!

To help you do your best we have all the equipment you expect; here comes the yada yada yada....

New Digital Ultrasound
Halothane/isofluorane anesthesia, with pulse oximetry, blood pressure etc
EKG- Cardiopet, as well as instant handheld unit to use in exam room!
X-ray machine with automatic exposure and automatic developer
Video Endoscopy
Tonopen
Large exam rooms
In house lab for Chemistry and CBC's ( we also use Anthech for outside tests )
Digital Ear thermometers
Full pharmacy; at last count we had 18 different antibiotics alone... We have medicines you never even heard of!

We do not board, we do not groom. We are strictly an animal hospital. We do work Saturdays; one week until 1 pm, next week until 4pm. (you get a day during the week off). We are closed Sundays.

Our regular days are appointments scheduled 9-12, 2-4, and 5-7 pm Monday to Friday. (7 hrs scheduled per day) Yes, we do run a little over 7 pm some nights during the busy season, but not often.

We try very, very hard on behalf of the pets. We really do care. We do everything we can for them.

We work as a team, the staff are very supportive. Everyone helps in everything. Cases are shared, looked at, and treated without regard to who took it into the hospital. There is always someone to give you a second or third opinion.

You need to have a good sense of humor to survive in our practice. You need to act as a team player, be willing to learn, be willing to teach, and generally have fun.

We promote pet health, regulary vaccinate, sell dogfood, vitamins, and flea and tick products. We are letting you know so there is no surprise!

This page was designed to give you an insight into our practice. If you think you may want to find out more, call us anytime; we love to talk!
